WHAT WE OFFER

Adult Braces

Adults opting for braces can experience a myriad of advantages. Firstly, braces can correct dental issues such as overcrowding, spacing, or misaligned bites, improving not only aesthetics but also oral function. This can result in a more comfortable bite and reduced risk of temporomandibular joint (TMJ) disorders. Secondly, straighter teeth are easier to clean, reducing the chances of dental problems like cavities and gum disease. Plus, the confidence boost from having a well-aligned smile can lead to improved self-esteem, positively impacting personal and professional relationships.

The journey to a straighter smile with adult braces begins with a consultation with Dr. Shrager. After a thorough assessment, a customized treatment plan is created. Depending on the complexity of the case, treatment may involve traditional metal braces or clear aligners. Regular appointments are scheduled to monitor progress and make necessary adjustments. The treatment duration varies from person to person but typically ranges from one to three years. After the braces are removed, a retainer is often prescribed to maintain the results and ensure the teeth remain properly aligned over the long term.

Early Orthodontic Treatment (Phase 1)

Early intervention in orthodontics can make a significant difference in a child's oral health journey. As recommended by the American Association of Orthodontics, children should have an orthodontic evaluation by age 7. For certain patients, this early assessment may lead to Phase 1 treatment, which focuses on guiding the growth and development of the dental arch and bite. Phase 1 lays the groundwork for any further treatment plans. By initiating treatment early, we can optimize results and reduce the complexity of future orthodontic care. Early orthodontic treatment offers children a path to a healthier and more harmonious smile.

Adolescent Orthodontic Treatment

The teenage years provide an ideal window for addressing malocclusion, which simply means a "bad bite." At this stage of rapid growth and development, we harness the body's natural growth forces to gently shift teeth and fix the way someone's bite works. This approach is referred to as "bioprogressive treatment."

Orthodontic treatment is especially potent during adolescence because the facial and jaw bones are still evolving. This means we can influence their development to craft the best possible bite and smile for the patient. In essence, during adolescence, we have a unique opportunity to make orthodontic treatment as effective as it can be by taking advantage of the body's natural growth patterns.

Traditional (Metal) Braces

Traditional braces are fixed to your teeth during treatment. They typically include brackets placed on individual teeth, bands placed on rear teeth, and arch wires to guide and straighten the teeth. We also use elastics (rubber bands), spacers, and other appliances as needed to create space and correct overjet and overbites.

Invisalign® Clear Orthodontic Aligners

Invisalign® is a convenient and nearly invisible alternative to traditional braces. Treatment involves a series of removable, clear trays that fit snugly over your teeth and barely visible to others. Over time, the trays move your teeth to their optimal position, giving you a beautiful new smile. Because they're removable, they make cleaning your teeth a breeze and they allow you to take a break from them for special occasions. If you're seeking a more private way to perfect your smile, Invisalign® is an excellent choice.

Corrective Surgery

In some complex cases, we may recommend surgery to correct a serious orthodontic issue. Such problems typically involve congenital abnormalities (birth defects) in jaw development and would be corrected before beginning orthodontics.

Orthodontic Emergencies

True orthodontic emergencies are rare, but we work with every patient to make sure you are safe and comfortable during your treatment. Occasionally a bracket or wire may become detached or you may experience slight discomfort as your teeth move and your archwire becomes exposed. If you're experiencing any of these issues, give us a call and we will see you as a walk-in to trim wires or re-bond brackets.
